In order to detect minor dental problems before they become major complications, you need to visit your dentist regularly. Dr. Otteson offers comprehensive dental examinations (utilizing 3D digital x-rays) to get a clear picture of your oral health. Periodontal (gum) disease can cause red, swollen, irritated gums and, if left untreated, can lead to tooth loss. Through early detection, Dr. Otteson tries to find and treat gum disease before it advances to later stages. If steps are needed to correct the damage of periodontal disease, Dr. Otteson is licensed in laser dentistry and uses LANAP technology to treat and repair your gums.
Sometimes a tooth can be so damaged that it needs to be covered with a dental crown (sometimes referred to as caps). Dental crowns can also be used as an artificial tooth (or restoration) that is secured to a dental implant.
If you are missing more than one tooth, Dr. Otteson may use a dental bridge to replace your missing teeth. Typically dental bridges consist of two dental crowns with an artificial tooth in between.

When the pulp inside the root canal of your tooth becomes infected, it can cause discomfort and pain. If left untreated, the infection can spread and lead to further damage and complications. Through root canal therapy, Dr. Otteson is able to remove the damage tooth pulp, properly clean out the root canal, and seal your tooth to protect the remaining tooth structure.
Cavities can damage teeth through cracks or gaps. Depending on the size of the damaged area, Dr. Otteson can repair your tooth with a dental filling, an inlay, or an onlay. Because inlays and onlays require less removal of your tooth's surface than fillings or crowns, Dr. Otteson will use these restorations to repair your damaged tooth whenever possible.
